Does hair restoration look natural?
Yes! Due to advanced techniques and the introduction of the follicular unit graft, current hair restoration procedures are undetectable. Old techniques used large "plugs" comprised of 15 to 30 hairs, which produced unnatural results described as "doll hair" or "corn rows." Follicular units utilize natural groupings of 1 to 4 hairs per graft resulting in a very natural hair restoration.
Do you perform hair restoration for women?
Yes! Advanced Medical Hair Institute provides hair restoration services to women. Since women lose their hair for a variety of reasons, we recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation during which time one of our physicians will help diagnose the reason and develop a hair loss management plan that is right for you.
What hair restoration techniques do you use?
Advanced Medical Hair Institute dissects every follicular unit utilizing binocular microscopes to remove as much skin from around the follicle as possible to allow placement into small incisions utilizing custom cut blades which match perfectly each individual graft. This results in 20 - 30% more grafts from the donor tissue. All grafts are placed utilizing magnification providing maximum density due to our ultra-refined dense packing technique. This advanced technique is extremely important for the maximum density achievable, particularly in the hairline, with the first procedure.
At what age should I get a hair restoration?
If and when you are a candidate for hair restoration, depends on your opinion regarding your present loss. Simply put, if you look in the mirror and are dissatisfied with what you see, at that point you are a candidate! We encourage you to address your hair loss sooner than later to prevent further progression. Unfortunately, you have lost 50% of your hair manufacturing capability before thinning is noticed! If you have experienced a significant amount of hair loss, we can help you stop it and educate you on the options available to restore it. Patients in their 20's require special consideration since the degree of balding that may occur over time is difficult to determine at this young age.
If I have a bad hair restoration, can you fix it
Yes! Advanced Medical Hair Institute performs corrective hair restoration procedures. The dense packing technique, particularly in the hairline, is usually capable of masking poor hair restoration results. Dr. Williams can explain how our techniques can successfully provide a natural, undetectable repair if the results you desired were not achieved. Feel free to contact our office for a complimentary visit or a "virtual consultation" on line for out of town patients.
Does hair restoration hurt?
Except for minimal discomfort that accompanies the administration of a local anesthetic, hair restoration is a well tolerated procedure. In fact, our patients are awake and comfortable throughout the procedure passing the time by watching movies, listening to music or working on their laptops. “Walk around” breaks can be enjoyed throughout the day and a catered lunch is provided by a local gourmet restaurant.
How soon after my procedure can I return to my daily routine?
Many of our patients return to their daily routine within a few days. There are, however, recommended limitations on heavy physical activity for 7-10 days. Hair washing can begin the day after the procedure.
Will my restored hair ever fall out?
Not typically. The hair follicles that are utilized are harvested from the back and sides of your scalp which are less susceptible to genetic programming which we call androgenetic alopecia. The chemical, Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the hormone responsible for attacking these sensitive follicles and causing thinning or balding.
Can I see actual patients before I decide to get hair restoration?
Yes! Visit the section "Before & After" to view the exceptional hair restoration results achieved by the Advanced Medical Hair Institute team. We can, also, arrange an opportunity for you to speak with some of our hair restoration patients who had similar needs as you and are willing to share their experience.
Is there any scarring following hair restoration?
There will be a thin line of scar where the donor hair is removed, however, there is no difficulty wearing hair as short as you wish. Only patients who want to shave their heads are likely to show an obvious line from removal of the superficial strip of skin.
Do you recommend Propecia or Rogaine?
Yes! Propecia and Rogaine are the only two hair loss medications recommended by Advanced Medical Hair Institute. Propecia is a safe and effective prescription medication for men only and Rogaine is an "over the counter" topical solution or foam which must be applied twice a day for men or women. These are the only FDA approved hair loss drugs. Unfortunately, medications are not adequate solutions for everyone since patients wait until thinning or balding is more advanced and a combination of restoration and maintenance with medications is necessary.
What is Low Level Laser Therapy?
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a painless light treatment that is FDA approved for safety and is a "stand alone" cosmetic enhancement program designed to improve thinning hair. It is usually suggested in female patients who are noticing thinning of their hair before actual scalp is easily visable through the thinning region. the approved wavelength has been utilized as healing lasers for decades and are purported to increase blood flow, nutrition to the damaged follicles, energy production at the cellular level, and protein synthesis. Advanced Medical Hair Institute offers this technology, but does not make any guarantees regarding the results as they are variable among patients.
Why do some hair restoration procedures not look natural?
Hair restoration procedures that look unnatural are the result of outdated techniques or failure to follow the guidelines to restore an appearance mimicking "mother nature." Before the introduction of follicular unit restorations, the punch technique was extremely popular. This technique consisted of individual punch biopsies containing 15 to 30 hairs. The excised portion of the scalp was then inserted into an opening on the balding area of the scalp. This hair restoration technique produced the "corn row" or "doll hair" effect which certainly does not appear natural! The restoration of the hairline is, often, not artistically irregular, properly positioned anatomically, and with enough density to reproduce what is accurate in nature.
Are there complications occurring in hair restoration procedures?
Major complications are extremely rare. The most serious concerns result from allergic reactions to medications and a rare wound infection which can usually be prevented with antibiotics. If you have further hair restoration concerns, contact one of our offices.
How many hair restoration procedures are necessary?
Without evaluating a particular patient’s hair loss pattern and discussing his/her expectations, it is not possible to know whether one hair restoration procedure will be sufficient. Most of our patients can achieve a very acceptable result after only one effort; however, others elect to have additional work in the future to increase volume and density. All of our patients can be comfortable in knowing that a natural and undetectable result is assured with every procedure!
If I have a medical condition can I still receive hair resoration?
Since hair restoration is a simple office procedure, many patients with existing medical conditions can safely have hair restoration. Certain medications may need to be discontinued for a brief time. For more details regarding your specific condition, schedule a complimentary consultation and our physician will discuss your personal situation.
How long before I will see results?
Hair growth gradually begins three to four months after the procedure; however, the majority of the restored hair follicles will be healthy enough to start growing after 10 months.
How long should I wait before another hair restoration procedure?
Typically, the answer is one year; however, this may vary among patients and the location of the donor site with the first procedure. This can be discussed with your physician.
If you have any further hair restoration questions, contact our office or schedule a complimentary office consultation or “virtual consultation” on line.
