Advanced Medical Hair Institute offers LLLT as a cosmetic hair enhancement program for patients who live in Las Vegas. The program provides most benefit for thinning hair, hopefully, before hair restoration is required. It is, also, strongly recommended to female patients after hair restoration to prevent continued progression of hair loss. Men can obtain benefit for progression by taking Propecia, but are candidates for LLLT as well. It involves a year long program consisting of 44 thirty minute light treatments. The program is more intense in the beginning with two treatments a week for two months, then one treatment each week for four months with the last six months requiring a treatment every two weeks. The therapy is painless and is administered under a lighted hood.

It all began in 1964 with Professor Andre Mester of Budapest, Hungary. While performing wound healing experiments with laboratory mice, Dr. Mester discovered that low level laser light exposure stimulated micro- circulation that regenerated tissues faster in healing wounds. Dr. Mester, also, noticed that body hair located in the region of a treated wound grew thicker and longer than the surrounding untreated hair. During the summer months, due to increased exposure to sunlight, we find that our hair grows faster and thicker. It is the pure red light wavelength present in sunlight that stimulates blood supply and provokes this biological phenomenon just as the low level lasers do.

Clinical Research, recently, presented by Dr. Grant Koher in the National
Hair Journal, Summer 2010, summarizes the results with LLLT as follows:

  •   After 20 treatments (Phase 1), 92% of the subjects presented an
increased hair count of >10% with 60% having an increase of >30%.

  •   After 36 treatments (Phase 2), 96% of the subjects presented an
increased hair count of >20% with 88% having an increase of 30%.

  •   After 52 treatments (Phase 3), 97% of the subjects presented an
increase hair count of >20% with 77% having an increase of >51%.

In conclusion, this study showed scheduled low level laser treatment can provide a medically significant treatment of female pattern hair loss by promoting hair growth and/or reduction of the rate of their hair loss.

Cosmetic Beauty Magazine says.... "This technology is ideal for people who are just starting to experience hair loss"

Dr. Williams hopes that LLLT may prove to be a solution for men and women that are seeking early treatment for thinning before a restoration is necessary.

The longer a man or woman experiences hair thinning, the less likely they are to obtain a full-appearing head of hair without a restoration procedure. Dr. Williams uses LLLT for his own personal hair loss after receiving his hair restoration procedure. He is personally convinced that there is a legitimate place for LLLT, in the appropriate patient, who wants to maintain or enhance the appearance of a fuller head of hair. He, also, admits LLLT is not a panacea and the gold standard in most patients is hair restoration, there definitely is a place for laser therapy as with nutrition, prescription drugs, and topical solutions in hair loss treatment regimens.Low Level Lasers are approved by the FDA for safety and for cosmetic hair enhancement providing thicker and healthier appearing hair. Our patients receiving hair restoration, also, benefit from LLLT. These painless, healing lasers increase blood flow and nutrition to the newly transplanted follicles resulting in more rapid hair growth
and healthier appearing hair.
